28th November 2016. Annual picnic to Surendrapuri

Annual picnic was jointly held by II Hyd Chapter #250 and Ohara School of Ikebana at Surendrapuri, an uniquely conceptualized theme park that showcases Hindu mythological stories and replicas of temples seen across the length and breadth of India. 31 members attended along with their guests and being Karthik maas, the holy month in Hindu calendar, the picnic was held on an auspicious Monday where prayers were performed at the temple and Vanabhojanam was served to all the members.

Prathibha Kunda our II member who hails from the Kunda family that visualised and crystallized the mythological marvel of Surendrapuri, organised the tour.

The tour then continued further to see the old Jain temple at Aler, Kolanupaka Temple which is a 2,000 year old Jain temple at the village of Kolanupaka in Nalgonda district, Telangana. The intricately carved red sand stone and marble temple houses three idols one each of Lord Rishabhanatha, Lord Neminatha, and Lord Mahavira. Members rejoiced the visual delights of both the places and enjoyed the picnic thoroughly.



17th November 2016. II Charter day programme

The II Charter Day was celebrated with a Dinner which was attended by members and their families at the Sailing Club Annexe, at Secunderabad, on 17th , November, Thursday 2016. It was a fun filled evening where the families of members bonded with all. I. I. Joint Treasurer Nirmala Agarwal organised interesting couple games which were enthusiastically played and enjoyed by members and their families. I. I. President Ms Vineetha presented the gifts to the winners and a sumptuous dinner was relished by all the attendees.



21st October 2016. Orchid Cultivation

I.I. Hyderabad Chapter conducted a programme on 21st of October, Friday, 2016. Mrs Nandita Lakhani, our I.I. member and expert Orchid grower to give us a demo on Orchid Cultivation, which was organised in the open garden of her Apartments at Banjara hills, Hyderabad.

She explained the techniques involved in successfully growing and tending the exotic species of Phaelanopsis, Dendrobiums, Vandas and Oncidiums and gave a detailed insight on the various mediums to grow them in the climatically challenged urban homes and gardens.

The care involved to look after the diseased plants and the remedial actions to be undertaken was elaborately explained. Members inquired and clarified their doubts from the expert.

Members and Guests turned out in large numbers and the Press media covered the event in the local TV and published in regional News papers.

Certifiate of Appreciation was presented to the demonstrator by the President Ho-Kiku A Vineetha Sunil Kumar.




28th September 2016. Terrarium and Ikebana landscape arrangement

I.I. HyderabadChapter #250, held a demonstration on the 28th of September, Wednesday, 2016 on Terrarium and Ohara School landscape arrangement at Room Therapy, a high-end decor store at Jubilee hills Hyderabad. Our talented member and 2nd Master Ho-ka Sukanya Reddy, well known for her expertise in Ikebana landscape arrangements and an award winning Bonsai artiste, demonstrated the technique of both Open terrariums and Closed terrariums to an enthralled audience. It was followed by a demo on Near view realistic landscape arrangement. Close to 50 members attended the meet and enjoyed the demo.

Ms Ho-Kiku A Vineetha Kumar President of the Chapter, honoured the artiste for the day , Ho-ka Sukanya Reddy with a certificate of appreciation. A well round of applause from all our members summed up the meet.




24th& 25th February 2016. First Annual Ikebana Festival

The chapter initiated its First Annual Ikebana Festival held over two days with a large exhibition, overseas master demonstration & workshops. This was conducted in memory of the Charter President of Ikebana International, Hyderabad Chapter Grandmaster Horyu Meena Anantnarayan who was instrumental in bringing Ikebana to South India & subsequent president Remani Nambiar both of whom contributed greatly to our chapter. President Ms. Uma Chigurupati said it is to be an annual affair every February from now on. A beautiful two day exhibition titled ‘Baskets & Bamboo’ attracted hundres of people including school students and was widely covered by the press. Ms. Kidching Ong. President I.I Johor Bahru Chapter #235 was the guest demonstrator, assisted by Ms. Kamisah. She also held a wonderful workshop of Origami, Ikebana and Furushiki. Deputy Consul General Mr. Koji Sugiyama was the Chief Guest & Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, Secretary, IT, Communications & Technology was the Guest of honour.Venue: Paryatak Bhavan, Begumpet.



28th January 2016. Ikebana workshop & Talk on home composting

A good turnout of members put up beautiful displays of their Ikebana arrangements using waste materials from their kitchen and home. Empty egg cartons, used brooms and old milk & cardboard boxes were incorporated into the creations. This was followed by an informative talk by Sandeep Sonti on home composting. Venue: Suneela Reddy’s garden.


January 26th to 30th 2015:

Ikebana International Hyderabad Chapter # 250 in association with Aalankritha Art Gallery organised an exhibition – “Floral Feast” at Aalankritha Art Gallery run by Ms. Prashanti Goel, Owner and Ikebana member.

Each member of Ikebana International Hyderabad Chapter # 250 displayed a different creative form of Ikebana arrangement based on the theme of the contemporary paintings of Ms. Udaya Chiluveru which was on display. It was a visual treat of flowers in life and flowers on canvas.

September 22nd - 23rd 2015:

The event "Festivals of India" was organized depecting Indian Festivals. All the participating members of the chapter shown their creativity and depected Indian festivals through colorful flowers. The event was graced by Mr. Koji Sugiyama, Deputy Consul General of Japan, Chennai and Ms. Kavitha Daryani, Registar, JNASFAU.

August 18th 2015:

The Annual General Body Meeting of the Chapter was held on Tuesday, 18th August 2015 at 10.30 A.M at Ms. Uma Chigurupati’s residence. All I. I. members attended the meeting.

The AGM was followed by “All Seasons” – Landscape Demonstration by our Masters from Hyderabad followed by lunch.

March 24th 2015:

The members of Ikebana International Hyderabad Chapter #250 along with Hyderabad Chapter of Ohara School of Ikebana celebrated the success of Ikebana International, Hyderabad Chapter President Ms. Uma Chigurupati who along with her husband Mr. Krishna Prasad has set the world record by running the marathon in 7 continents in 7 days by doing Ikebana arrangements “The 7 Continents” as the theme for the day. The event hosted by Ms. Nirmala Agarwal at her residence in Nandgiri Hills, Hyderabad

March 3rd 2015:

It’s the event of full spirit of celebration for us in the air with International Women Week and Holi Festival round the corner. To celebrate this in our style i.e with the language of flowers, the chapter has an Ikebana Workshop titled “Khushi ke rang, Phoolon ke sang”.


Arrangements made with bright flowers to depict the strong and cheerful woman using traditional or other containers to mark the festival of Holi.

March 26th 2011:

An Ikebana exhibition, co hosted by Hyderabad-Miyoshi Sister City Affiliation Committee was held as a show of support and to those affected in Japan due to the earth quake and Tsunami. Predominantly white flowers were used as a symbol of hope and peace.

All the members took great care in presenting their views about the huge calamity through the medium of their Ikebana arrangements. They used predominantly white flowers as a symbol of hope and peace. This event was co-hosted by the Miyoshi-Hyderabad City Affliation Committee.

April 7th 2011 :

The annual lunch was organised at Brahmani Avenue which has an interesting water house and model house with beautiful gardens. Interesting floral games were conducted.

18th April 2011:

The much awaited launch of the book “Flowers & Flavours†took place. The Ikebana exhibits that day had an edible element in them and created great interest and enthusiasm among members and guests. The event generated great awareness of Ikebana in the local press..Vice-President Uma Prasad was honoured for entering the Guinness book of World Records along with her husband, for their marathons. The chapter book was such a success, it had a reprint and proceeds from it sent for Earthquake relief to Japan, local charities and lovely Ikebana programmes.

14th July 2011 :

Our member Sita Sastry gave a beautiful demonstration and workshop on floral painting on fabric. She generously gave her paints and fabric for all to and encouraged the creative skills of all.

19th - 20th August 2011:

Amrita Mankad, a senior Ohara member from Delhi Chapter gave an interesting demonstration, 'De-stressing through Ikebana' and conducted novel workshops.

15th September 2011:

“Afromania†Uma RamMohan Rao gave a demonstration of a beautiful African theme craft. Members also did arrangements based on African theme. Guests showed interest in chapter activities and joined in as members after the programme.

2011 October:

The Annual General Body Meeting was held, followed by an interesting festival theme demonstration by Shivani Tibrewala, a Sogetsu member of our. The dress code for the programme was 'Festive' keeping in mind that it was the season between Dassera and Diwali.

17th November 2011:

The Chapter members visited the Interactive digital museum on Mahatma Gandhi at Bapughat for their Charter Day programme..An Ikebana display with Gandhi theme was done by member Deepti Yajnik, The evening included a cake to kick start the celebrations of the 15th year of Inception of the Chapter.

10th - 11th December 2011:

The Chapter President Rekha Reddy along with Anisha Tandon and Rama Lakshmi did a large Ikebana display uses roses as the floral material for the Annual Rose Show at Jubilee Hall, Public Gardens. In the flower arrangement competition organized at the venue our Chapter members won several prizes.

26th-30th January 2012:

The Ikebana display at the Annual Horticulture show was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Shri N Kirankumar Reddy who appreciated the several arrangements done by the members. Thousands of visitors visited the show.

13th-14th February 2012:

A beautiful Ikenobo demonstration and workshops were conducted by Ms. Rumiko Manako who came from Tokyo to be part of our events. She is President of Ikenobo Tokyo Busokai and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the Ikenobo experience.

28th March 2102:

Nirmala Agarwal & Anisha Tandon gave a demonstration to eager students at 'Nachiketa Tapovan', a school for the under privileged.

26th April 2012:

Mr Govind Kulkarni, an origami artist gave a demonstration on the traditional Japanese art.. Members simultaneously created a flower and a vase, Ms. Sato, a guest showed how to make a paper crane.

1st - 4th May 2012:

16 registered and accompanying members went to Tokyo for the I.I World Convention. The whole experience was exhilarating. It was heartening to see that several attendees knew of our chapter because of the book Flowers & Flavours, newsletter and chapter activities. Our chapter and city has gained prominence on the world map! Our president Rekha Reddy and other Presidents were invited to a special dinner with Princess Takamado. We welcomed all other chapter members to visit us anytime.

12th May 2012:

The students at a local school had yet another chance to see flower arrangements done by our chapter members for them.

28th June 2012:

Ms. Natsuko Sato, gave a Japanese cooking demonstration. Along with her friend Ms. Toshiyo accompanied by her yukata clad daughter Mion, she made a tasty noodle dish. This was followed by valuable tips on photographing flowers & leaves by Ms. Lona Logan, a keen photographer.

11st July 2012:

'Pushpa Raagalu' an evening of Floral Fashion & Ikebana arrangements was inaugurated by the Consul General of Japan, Chennai, Mr.Masanori Nakano. The ladies wore exotic jewellry made from flowers and spoke about the significance and use of the flower. The second issue of the chapter newsletter was released.

30th-31st July 2012:

Mrs. Hena Rahimtutla of the Ohana Concept from Mumbai gave an interesting demonstration and workshop of many different styles.

26th September 2012:

Poonam Panwar, a senior member, showed how to make paper flowers and used them in some miniature arrangements beautifully. The DVD of the recent World Convention was also played for the members.
